Welcome Guide

About the Library

Schwartz_BrianWelcome! On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Frank Ritchel Ames Memorial Library, I am delighted to welcome you to our website, to our libraries, and to our community.

Let me tell you a little bit about us. We believe that information is the spark that powers healthcare education and research, and we are excited to offer innovative people and resources to help you navigate and create the information you need.

Our library is more than a cutting-edge collection; it is a place to study and a community of practice, a home for inquiry, and a venue for research. And every now and again, it is a safe space to take a deep breath and look at beautiful views of Pikes Peak or the Red Mountain.

We offer a rich and diverse set of books, journals, databases, models, flashcards, study aids, and other materials to facilitate your education, and we feature a talented group of information professionals dedicated to helping educate the next generation of healthcare providers who practice with compassion, integrity, and excellence.
We encourage you to explore what the library has to offer and to let us know how we can better help you achieve your goals.

Thank you for being part of our community,
Brian D. Schwartz, PhD, MLIS

Furthermore, faculty can request that a member of the Library team provide targeted instruction to their students.

Purchase Requests: RVU’s Community can request that the Library purchase books, articles, and supplies on their behalf through our website.

Research Consultations: RVU’s Community can request one-on-one or group research consultations with a member of our research team. Consultations can be booked through our website, through Navigate, or by emailing the research team directly.

Wellness Activities: RVU’s Community can join a number of the Library’s wellness activities. The Library hosts weekly yoga sessions in Colorado, quarterly book club meetings on each campus, and a bi-yearly “Hurrah for Humanities” event to encourage our community to read over winter and summer break.

Our Resources

The Library has access to over 45+ million articles through our online eJournal packages. Our community can use Library Literature Search (on our website), Scopus, and PubMed (via MEDLINEComplete) to locate articles through our collection. Furthermore, if the Library does not have an article in our collection, our community can submit a purchase request through iNet or Article Galaxy Scholar.

The Library has over 2000 eBooks that can be accessed from anywhere. Furthermore, numerous eBook packages (e.g. AccessMedicine, Case Files, LWW Health Library) offer interactive online question banks and other multimedia resources. On average, students can access 60% of their Required or Recommended (R&R) textbooks through one of our subscription packages. Detailed information about our R&R textbooks can be found on our website under "Highlighted Collections".

Students, Faculty, and Staff have online access to world-class point-of-care resources (POCs) that will support faculty in the classroom and students during third and fourth-year rotations. Our community has access to Up-To-Date, DynaMed, and VisualDx through their laptop devices and on the go via their phones and tablets.  The Library offers training sessions throughout the year so our community can familiarize themselves with our POCs.
