Top FAQs


How do I access online resources on and off campus?

Classes 2018 – 2020: Username is firstname.lastname, password is the same password used to log into Mediasite. If you don’t know your password, please contact the helpdesk.

Class of 2021: Username is firstname.lastname, password is your email password.

Faculty/Staff: Username is firstinitiallastname (e.g. jsmith for Joe Smith, jdoe for Jane Doe), password is the same password you use to log into your computer.

Can I search every library resource from one search?

EBSCO Discovery (located on the library's homepage) allows users to search for library resources (eBook, eJournals, articles, and print resources) from a single location. 


What types of books cannot be checked out from the library? 

Students, Faculty, and Staff are allowed to checkout any book that has not been marked with a "Non-Circulating" sticker. 

Reference and Reserve books cannot be checked out from the library.


Can study rooms in the library be reserved?

Study Rooms are first come, first served. However, tutors can make a reservation by emailing the library ahead of time. 


How long is the checkout period for books?

Faculty and Staff are allowed to checkout titles for a two month period, and are allotted two renewals before an item must be returned. 

Students are allowed to checkout titles for a two week period, and are allotted three renewals before an item must be returned.


How do I renew books that I have checked out?

Renew titles online by emailing library@rvu.edu.

OR

Renew titles in person by visiting the library circulation desk during staffed hours.


How do I use the "Chat Now" Feature?

You must have Skype for Business installed on your desktop or laptop to use this feature, OR, you may add our help desk to your Skype contacts by adding "askus@rvu.edu" to your online Office365 account.

Databases can be accessed via an App or a mobile device.


Can I use my existing RVU email and password to log into an App?

Create a free account to gain access to Apps for library databases. See below for instructions.

Does it cost money to create an account for a specific database?

Create a free account in any of our databases. 


What are the benefits of creating a free database account?

Creating a free account unlocks advanced features. When you create an account, you will be able to create alerts, save searches, favorite books, etc. Each database offers different advanced features when you create an account. Go to our Database Guides for more information.


What is the easiest way to find a database?

Explore our Databases by accessing our A-Z Database webpage from the library's homepage. 


What is open access?

Open Access (OA) journals, eBook, articles, and databases are available at no cost to the reader. They are public facing and do not present the user with financial, legal, or technical barriers.

Can the Library buy access to every PubMed article?

PubMed indexes over 27 million citations and abstracts that users can freely access. The library cannot buy access to articles on PubMed because PubMed does not own any articles that are displayed on its' site.

 eJournals & eBooks can be easily accessed using Publication Finder.
