The National Library of Medicine's Graphic Medicine Display has arrived at the Colorado Library! From August 19th-September 28th, discover the unique genre of graphic medicine with some iconic books, including:

  • Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh
  • Marbles by Ellen Forney
  • El Deafo by Cece Bell
  • Cancer Vixen by Marisa Acocella Marchetto

At the Colorado and Utah campuses, if you check out a graphic novel from the display, you'll receive a free, limited edition sticker and be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a $25 Visa gift card! Two winners will be chosen.

In honor of the Graphic Medicine display, Articulate is now accepting graphic medicine submissions for a special issue! RVU members at all three campuses are encouraged to draw from their experiences as a patient in the medical world. Email the Writing Center at writingcenter@rvu.edu or join Professor Fisher's Graphic Medicine Talk on September 4th from 12 PM-1 PM via Zoom for more information. You can submit your artwork to articulate.submissions@rvu.edu.

The All-Access RVU Employee Resource Group presents “The R-Word.” We will screen the documentary on July 31st from 5 – 6:30. The screening is open to students and employees. Please RSVP to attend. RSVPing will allow our group to book the appropriate space to accommodate our audience. We will send a calendar invite once you RSVP. The location will be announced when the RSVP period ends on 7/26 at 5 pm.

The R-Word

Filmmaker Amanda Lukoff grew up advocating for her sister Gabrielle, especially whenever she heard the word retard(ed). With The R-Word, she unravels the history and lasting effects of this word through the lens of the sibling experience, captivating animation sequences, and self-advocates speaking truth-to-power - ultimately making the case for why the conversation surrounding people with intellectual and developmental disabilities needs to change.  - https://www.therwordfilm.com/

Content Warning: The documentary uses language that may be emotionally challenging for attendees and viewers across marginalized groups.

Cannot attend? Stream the movie through DocuSeek for FREE until June 2025.
